Blintzapalooza 25th Anniversary Community Vote
Thank you all so much for your incredible response – 2,000 votes cast! The polls have now closed and the winner will be announced at Blintzapalooza this Sunday. You can still ready about all the organizations that were in the running and/or make a donation to them here.
For the past 25 years, the Olympia community has been a huge part of Temple Beth Hatfiloh’s beloved annual community fundraiser: Blintzapalooza. Each year, thousands of people come through the temple doors to purchase bagels, blintzes, and books. All of the proceeds from the event benefit local nonprofit organizations. The 25th Anniversary of Blintzapalooza is March 17, 2013 – Event Details here.
Since 1988, you have helped raise approximately $125,000 for nearly 50 projects and programs at 30 different local organizations doing good work in our community.
Blintzapalooza is one of the ways that TBH fulfills the Jewish value of tzedakah, or charitable giving. Through tzedakah we work to create justice and fairness in our world and make Olympia a better place for all who live here.
The 25th Anniversary Blintzapalooza 2013 will be held at Temple Beth Hatfiloh (201 8th Ave SE, Olympia, WA 98501) on March 17th from 10am-2pm and as usual will include the sale of bagels with lox and cream cheese, blintzes with delicious toppings, frozen blintzes, used books, and a cooking competition.
The 2013 competition, What’s Kuchen?, will be a cake competition. Any and all community members are invited to submit a cake for the competition, both Jews and non-Jews alike. Please do not use any pork-based products (such as certain types of lard) in your cake.
The competition takes place during the Blintzapalooza event and all entries must be at the temple by 11am on March 17th. Judging takes place around noon.
Donate your used books before March 17th by dropping them off the temple’s east doors just off the parking lot off 8th and Washington in Olympia.
To mark our 25th Anniversary we created Choose-A-Palooza and invited the Olympia community to choose which of our previous recipients gets another donation this year, alongside this year’s two other beneficiaries: GRuB and SideWalk (Learn more about these organizations.)
The organization with the most votes will receive a donation of $2,500. All other organizations will receive a contribution of $36 or “double חַי”. (the letters in the word חַי – chai or life – add up to 18, a spiritual number in Judaism, and Jews often give gifts of money in multiples of 18 as a result)
